  • “My husband, Vladimir Kozlov, is exposed to pressure, forced to incriminate himself and others, giving false testimonies” – A statement was made yesterday at a press conference by the wife of the arrested “Alga!” party leader, Aliya Turusbekova. The activist is not only being isolated from his wife, but he is also forbidden from receiving any items or food in his detention cell.

Respublika: Taraz resident in defence of the arrested, 14.02.2012 On Monday, Taraz city resident Lyudmila Saluyanova entered the central city square – where the city akimat and the Nur Otan ruling party offices are located - with a poster, demanding the liberation of politicians Vladimir Kozlov, Serik Sapargali, Ayzhangul Amirova and editor-in-chief of “Vzglyad” Igor Vinyavskiy.

Respublika: “Alga!” protestor detained at Kokshetau, 13.02.2012

  • Today at Kokshetau a picketer was detained for his protest outside the NSC department – member of a non-registered “Alga!” party, Bakhtyzhan Kanapiya. He was detained for a few hours in the Internal affairs department of the city, where his poster “Freedom to political prisoners” was confiscated and he was subsequently instructed to visit the police department the next day. Apparently the issue of his possible liability for this unauthorised action will be decided.

Respublika: Communist picketing regional akimat in Taraz, 09.02.2012

  • Rakhmatilda Auganbaev, second secretary of Zhambylsk regional committee of Communist Party of Kazakhstan, picketed the akimat of Zhambylsk region. The activist paraded around with a poster, reading “Freedom to Kozlov, Amirova, Vinyavskiy and Sapargali”. The action attracted police attention, but the protestor was not detained.

Respublika: “Today we get jailed – tomorrow they’ll start killing us”, 08.02.2012

  • Yesterday, the spouses of the arrested Vladimir Kozlov and Igor Vinyavskiy – Aliya Turusbekova and Lana Vinyavskaya – conveyed to the Bundestag MPs an address by the “Alga!” leader and the editor-in-chief of “Vzglyad” to the international community. The above happened during the press-conference entitled “The future of Kazakhstan after striker shootings and the parliamentary elections” held in Berlin. The telephone connection was established from the unregistered “Alga!” party office in Almaty.

  • Aliya Turusbekova was allowed to see her husband, the “Alga!” party leader Vladimir Kozlov, from behind glass. It is still forbidden to send parcels to him, and his hernia operation so far remains unconfirmed. However, insider information that “Respublika” has access to, suggests that Kozlov was “prescribed” some pills – but unlikely in order to preserve his health.

  • Yesterday, on February 6th, representatives of the Karaganda branch of the unregistered “Alga!: party summoned an urgent press conference for journalists. The opposition activists took pre-emptive action, stating that due to recent seizures of Vladimir Kozlov’s property in the regions, they were also expecting a sudden visit from NSC officers.

  • A city court prolonged measures of constraint for “Alga!” party leader Vladimir Kozlov and “People’s front” activist Serik Sapargali without changes – detainment for two months. The prosecutor adjudged that they might continue their “criminal activity”, and the court secretary went as far as to call Vladimir Kozlov “prisoner at the bar”.

  • Today the “Alga!” party office received an anonymous call from a person claiming to be NSC officer. The caller took interest in the flat’s owner and its residents. The staff refused to answer the questions via telephone, after which they were visited by OPON…

Respublika: NSC forbids parcels for “Alga!” leader, 06.02.2012

  • Vladimir Kozlov is convinced of the artificiality of accusations levied against him. “The authorities are taking revenge for my support given to the Zhanaozen strikers” – he said today during the meeting with his spouse Aliya. Interestingly, the investigator Shayken Nazym did not allow parcels containing personal effects or products to be sent to Kozlov, without giving a rationale for the decision.
