It so transpired that Vladimir Kozlov 'celebrated' his 52nd birthday in the detention centre. And therefore the most common wish of his supporters, who sent him telegrams on 10 August, was for him to celebrate his 2013 birthday as a free man.

When people do not insist on fair and proper treatment, the authorities grow in insolence and begin to engage in criminal behaviour. And today, the day before the proceedings commence in the case of the leader of the opposition party 'Alga!', they again show their essence by violating the legal rules and ignoring civil rights.

Today at 11:45 am, local time, in the city of Aktau, Vladimir Kozlov was handed an indictment in the detention centre. However, this again couldn't have happened without any 'surprises' from the secret services. As Aliya Turusbekova wrote on 'Facebook', the head of the investigative group, Colonel Baldairov, tried to persuade lawyers and defendants to sign for receipt of backdated allegations against her.

Investigators limit the timeline of familiarisation with the materials of the criminal case only in politically sensitive cases. At least lawyer Nurlan Beisekeyev observes such a trend. According to him, 'the time pressure of the investigation' constitutes a violation of numerous rights of the accused.

However, just prior to the meeting, she was suddenly informed that in order for the meeting to go ahead, she was required to undergo... personal inspection, like a criminal.

Moreover, at that particular time, he was transferred to a chamber with insects and mould on the walls, without any chair or table, even though they should be there according to the regulations.

Last week, the Internet portal 'Respublika' described the existence of the 'Regulation on the allocation of the criminal case' against Mukhtar Ablyazov and Muratbek Ketebaev to separate proceedings, and revealed its content. We briefly presented this content in the last issue of the newspaper, but we omitted the fact that our colleagues in Moscow have received scans of not one, but two documents from their 'correspondent'.

On Saturday 11 August, attempts were made to serve Vladimir Kozlov with an indictment in the detention centre. Moreover, the prosecutors have already familiarised themselves with the case and even sent it to the court – the trial 'against the enemy of peace and humanity' will begin on 16 August.
