Respublika: “I will not end my own life even for the sake of freedom”, 03.08.2012

  • At the end of June we published the first instalment of the diary of the leader of the party “Alga!”, Vladimir Kozlov, who has already spent six months behind bars. Those records covered the time period from the moment of his arrest in Almaty to his transfer to the detention centre in Aktau. These excerpts are from the so-called Aktau period. Vladimir Ivanovich wrote about the conditions of imprisonment of the oil-workers and his discussions with the Director, Bolat Atabayev.

inosumi.ru: Vladimir Kozlov – the banner of the opposition, 3.08.2012

  • The fact that Volodya Kozlov has been sacrificed is now clear to all. He is the victim of the resistance – both political (authorities against the opposition) and interpersonal (Nazarbayev against Ablyazov). However, the personal and political issues are mixed to the extent that it's now impossible to separate them. And there is also no need for that: the process of such “mixing” has become an integral part of our lives.

Respublika: A masterpiece by Baldairov to the envy of Yertysbayev, 31.07.2012

  • A few days ago someone “planted” a copy of the Resolution on the allocation of the criminal case, dated 13 July 2012, in our mailbox. We read the document and had great fun. The document was signed in Aktau, by the now, widely notorious, N.S. Baldairov; the man that led the investigation team of the NSC in the case of Vladimir Kozlov.

  • Kazakh National Security Committee returned an empty envelope to Aliya Turusbekova. The very same envelope in which she had sent a statement to the Chairman of the Committee, Nurtai Abykayev. The wife of an opposition politician asked him to provide her with the same opportunities as Ermek Tursunov, who campaigned for the release of Vladimir Kozlov's colleague – Bolat Atabayev.

  • The current conditions of detention of Vladimir Kozlov in the detention centre in Aktau were labelled “torture and ill-treatment” by the human rights defenders Yevgeniy Zhovtis and Zhemis Turmagambetova. They advise the relatives and lawyers of Kozlov to ring all the bells and contact human rights organisations up to and including the UN Committee against Torture.

Respublika: “We are deprived of our freedom, but not our dignity”, 25.06.2012

  • How is it possible to remain a human in inhuman conditions? The leader of the party “Alga!”, arrested five months ago on charges of “inciting social discord” knows the answer to this question. Interrogation, anticipation, visiting. Detention centre, transfer, detention centre again. The life of the politician has become a struggle for survival and dignity.

Respublika: NSC slanders Kozlov's wife, 13.06.2012

  • The leader of the party “Alga!” is being detained for the fifth month. During this time, Nazarbayev's ‘secret police’, without having uncovered any evidence of a crime, failed to come up with anything more original than to put pressure on other defendants facing charges of inciting social discord in order to force them to give false testimony against Kozlov – in exchange for their reclassification from the status of ‘suspect’ to ‘witness’.

Respublika: You, Kozlov, shall remain in prison, and the law is irrelevant! 13.06.2012

  • Judge Dosmagambetova, of the city court in Zhanaozen decided to extend the term of detention of Vladimir Kozlov, who shall remain in the detention centre in Aktau, until 23 July. This happened on Tuesday in the presence of NSC and the prosecutor, although without the knowledge of the politician's lawyer. Thus, the servant of Themis violated what she should faithfully defend – the law.
