Serik Sapargali
He is one of the leaders of the 'Khalyk Maidany' ('People's Front') movement.
On the 23rd of January, 2012, he was taken into custody and accused of 'inciting social hatred'. The following criminal proceedings were instituted against him: on articles relating to 'calls for the overthrow of the constitutional order' and the 'creation and management of an organised group with intent to commit one or more offences, as well as participation in such a group'.
During the trial, he pleaded partial guilt by making a statement that he regrets that his actions have led to bloodshed. On the 8th of October, 2012 he received a suspended sentence of 4 years' imprisonment and was released.
The freedom of speech may be taken away, and dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter.
